Idioma sherpa

L'idioma sherpa és una llengua tibética parlada principalment en la regió de Khumbu, Nepal, i en Sikkim, Índia, pels sherpas. Uns 145 000 parlants viuen en Nepal (2011), uns 20.000 en Sikkim (1997) i uns 800 en la Regió Autònoma del Tibet (1994).

Es tracta d'un llenguage subjecte-objecte-verp (SOV). S'escriu utilisant l'escritura devanagari o tibetà.

Classificació

Sherpa pertany a la família tibeto-birmana i a la família secundària tibética. Està relacionat en els idiomes jirel, humla, mugom, dolpo, lo-ke, nubri, tsum, langtang, kyirong, yolmo, gyalsumdo, kagate, lhomi, i walung.
