Idioma siux
El siux (autoglotónimo: lakȟótiyapi; també cridat lakota, dakota o nakota) és una llengua de la família siuana parlada per al voltant de 20 000 siux en Estats Units i Canadà, lo que ho convertix en el tercer idioma indígena més parlat d'Estats Units tan sol per darrere dels idiomes navajo i yupik.[1]
Els parlants de la llengua constituïxen una de les comunitats de parlants de llengües indígenes més grans d'Estats Units, que viuen principalment en els estats de Dakota del Nort i Dakota del Sur. Moltes comunitats conten en programes d'immersió tant per a chiquets com per a adults.
Com a moltes llengües indígenes, el siux no tenia tradicionalment una forma escrita. No obstant, els esforços per desenrollar un alfabet per a l'idioma varen començar principalment gràcies al treball de misionero i llingüistes cristians a finals del XIX i principis del XX. Des de llavors, l'ortografia ha evolucionat per a reflectir les necessitats i l'us contemporàneus.[2]
Des de l'any 2019, "l'idioma de la Gran Nació Siux, compost per tres dialectes, dakota, lakota i nakota" és l'idioma indígena oficial de l'estat de Dakota del Sur.[3]
Nom
editarLa paraula "siux" és una forma abreviada de nadouessioux,[4] que va ser presa al francés canadenc a partir d'un exònim anterior utilisat pels ojibwa, nadowessiwag. Els francesos pluralizaron el singular nadowessi agregant el sufix plural francés -oux per a formar nadouessioux, que després es va reduir a sioux.
A l'idioma també se li coneix com "lakota", "dakota" o "nakota" segons les diferències dialectals. En qualsevol de les seues variants, el terme es traduïx com "amic" o "aliat" en referència a les aliances entre les bandes.[4][5]

editarLa llengua siux té tres blocs dialectals regionals principals:[6]
- Dakota oriental (també conegut com santee-sisseton, dakhóta)
- Santee (Bdewákhathuŋwaŋ, Waȟpékhute)
- Sisseton (Sisíthuŋwaŋ, Waȟpéthuŋwaŋ)
- Dakota occidental (també conegut com yankton-yanktonai, dakȟóta)
- Yankton (Iháŋktȟoŋwaŋ)
- Yanktonai (Iháŋktȟoŋwaŋna)
- Upper Yanktonai (Wičhíyena)
- Lakota (també conegut com lakȟóta, teton, teton siux)
- Lakota del nort (Húŋkpapȟa, Itázipčo, Mnikȟówožo, Oóhenuŋpa, Sihásapa)
- Húŋkpapȟa/Standing Roc
- Lakota del sur (Oglála, Sičháŋǧo)
- Lakota del nort (Húŋkpapȟa, Itázipčo, Mnikȟówožo, Oóhenuŋpa, Sihásapa)
Tant el santee-sisseton com el yankton-yanktonai són variants d (cridant-se a sí mateixos dakȟóta). El lakota és de la variant l (cridant-se a sí mateixos lakȟóta).
