L'història universal[1][2][3] és el conjunt de fets i processos que s'han desenrollat en l'entorn del ser humà, des de l'aparició de l’Homo sapiens fins a l'actualitat. Esta història està marcada tant per una successió gradual de descobertes i de nous invents, com per desenrolls més accelerats lligats a canvis de paradigma i a periodos revolucionaris, que finalment han fet possible l'evolució material i espiritual de la humanitat.
