Holothyrida
Els Holothyridos són un chicotet grup d'àcars en el superorden dels parasitiformes en una clara distribució en els continents provinents de Gondwana. En cos que medixen en promig més de 2 mm són relativament gran, en cos altament esclerotizado.[1] Varis integrants d'este orde s'alimenten a partir dels decorreguts d'artròpodes morts, es creu que este tipo d'alimentació era la forma comuna d'alimentació fins que es va conseguir una adaptació per a poder alimentar-se dels decorreguts de sers vius com la sagne animal.[2]
Aun cuando únicament 25 espècies han segut actualment descrites, moltes atres han segut recolectades. No existixen registres fòssils coneguts actualment per a este orde. Sistemàticament es consideren el grup germà d'Ixodida.[3]
