The irradiance is
- E(x) = E0 × (2 J1(π x) / (π x))2
where
- E0 is the irradiance at the center of the pattern
- x = d sin θ / λ
- d is the aperture diameter
- θ is the angle from the axis
- λ is the wavelength.
Alternatively, if the pattern is seen at the focus of a lens,
- x = r / (λ N)
- r is the distance from the center of the pattern
- N is the f-number.
