Alfabet fonotípico anglés
El és un alfabet fonètic desenrollat per Sir Isaac Pitman i Alexander John Ellis originalment com una proposta de reforma ortogràfica de l'idioma anglés.[1] Encara que mai va obtindre una àmplia acceptació, alguns dels seus elements es varen incorporar al modern alfabet fonètic internacional.[2]
Va ser publicat originalment en juny de 1845.[3] Posteriorment, es varen publicar adaptacions que varen estendre l'alfabet a l'alemà, a l'àrap, al espanyol, al toscano, al francés, al galés, a l'italià, al neerlandés, al polac, al portugués i al sánscrito.[4]
