Acaenasuchus

Acaenasuchus (nom que significa "cocodril espina") és un gènero extint pertanyent a l'orde Suchia, endèmic de lo que ara és Norteamérica durant el periodo Triásico, vivint entre fa 228-216.5 millons d'anys.[1]

Taxonomia

L'espècie tipo de Acaenasuchus, A. geoffreyi, va ser nomenada per Long i Murry (1995) sobre la base de l'armadura dérmica del Membre Blue Taula de la Formació Chinle en Arizona. Heckert i Lucas (1999, 2000, 2002) varen considerar a Acaenasuchus com un jovenil de Desmatosuchus. No obstant, Irmis (2005) i Parker (2008) varen disputar la sinonímia de Acaenasuchus en Desmatosuchus, senyalant diferències entre els dos en les característiques dels osteodermos.[2][3][4][5][6][7] Marsh i col. (2020) varen descriure un nou material que demostra que Acaenasuchus no és un aetosaurio i, en canvi, està estretament relacionat en els tàxons no aetosaurianos Euscolosuchus i Revueltosaurus.[8]
