Charles Bukowski

Heinrich Karl Bukowski, conegut per (Henry) Charles Bukowski (Andernach, Alemània, 16 d'agost de 1920 - San Pedro, Los Angeles, Califòrnia, Estats Units, 9 de març de 1994), fon un escritor de relats, noveliste i poeta nortamericà naixcut en Alemània, representant del realisme brut i considerat com un «poeta malaït», pel seu excessiu alcoholisme, pobrea i ser un bohemi.

L'obra lliterària de Bukowski està fortament influïda per l'atmòsfera de la ciutat de Los Angeles, a on va passar la major part de la seua vida. Hui en dia és considerat un dels escritors més influents de la lliteratura nortamericana i un dels símbols del «realisme brut» i de la lliteratura independent.

Charles Bukowski escrigué llibres de diversos gèneros, tals com: diaris, relats, noveles, poesies, ensajos i inclús aplegà a escriure Barfly, un guió cinematogràfic basat en el seu alter ego Henry Chinaski, dirigida pel cineaste francés Barbet Schroeder, película a on va realisar una aparició (un cameig) en un bar. Esta experiència la va recopilar en una novela, Hollywood (1989).

L'obra de Charles Bukowski va rebre tantes crítiques negatives com a positives. Se li va acusar de practicar un estil bròfec com a mer exhibicionisme lliterari i de reiterar les seues obsessions de modo efectiste. Atres crítics, en canvi, varen realçar la seua autenticitat i la seua condició d'escritor malaït.
