En l'any [[1895]] la Old Rugbeian Society va decidir verificar l'història, pero no va trobar cap testic de la mateixa. Des de llavors eixos dos artículs escrits per Bloxam són l'única font de l'història, sobre la que existix un ampli consens per a considerar-la falsa.
