Français : L'un des affleurements d'asphalte naturel de Rancho La Brea, avec une bulle de gaz (méthane) émergeant lentement d'un petit puits de goudron.
  • Des millions d'animaux sont mort noyés sur ce site, englués dans l'asphalte naturel. C'est un gisements fossilifères réputé comme étant les plus intéressant au monde. On y trouve des cadavres de nombreux animaux fossiliés. 95 % des cadavre englués dans le pétrole sont des insectes (insectes aquatiques pour la plupart), dont on pense maintenant qu'ils ont été en grande partie attirés par la polarisation de la lumière solaire sur le pétrole, qui pour ces insectes évoque celle - très attractive - d'une surface en eau.
  • C'est un des exemples anciens de piège écologique
