English: The work depicts the signing of the Peace of Cambrai, or "Peace of the Ladies", on August 5, 1529 between the kingdoms of France and Spain by Louise of Savoy, acting on behalf of her son Francis I of France, and Margaret of Austria, who signed on behalf of her nephew, Emperor Charles I of Spain.
