The semi-circles prevents surface erosion and encourages infiltration. Organic matter in the semi-circles attracts termites and other destruents, creating macropores in the soil. According to local communities, preparation of 1 ha amounts to two to four person-months of work, and yearly maintanance of approximatly one-person month is required.
