| Description |
English: Above the entrance of the Basílic of Mary Help of Christians and St Charles Borromeo is the Christ Pantocrator, typical element of the Byzantine art also used in the Romanesque style. This sculpture was carved from a single block of marble by the Salesian artist Quintín Piana in the former School of Arts and Crafts, current College Pio IX. In this sculptural group, Christ is seated, flanked by two angels at his feet. Instead of depicting Christ with a somewhat stern aspect and with the right hand raised as is typical in a Pantocrator, Christ keeps his hands open and down at his sides, as a sign of welcome and blessing. Español: Por encima de la entrada de la Basílica María Auxiliadora y San Carlos (Buenos Aires) se encuentra el pantocrátor, elemento típico del arte bizantino también utilizado en el románico. Esta escultura fue tallada en un bloque único de mármol blanco, por el artista salesiano Quintín Piana en la antigua Escuela de Artes y Oficios, actual Colegio Pío IX. En este grupo escultórico, Cristo se encuentra sentado, flanqueado por dos ángeles a sus pies. En lugar de mostrar a Cristo con un aspecto severo y la mano derecha levantada como es típico en un pantocrátor, Cristo mantiene las manos abiertas y dirigidas hacia abajo, en señal de acogida y bendición. |
