Habita, principalment, el [[ecosistema]] brasiler del [[Ecorregión del Tancat|Tancat]], encara que pot ser trobat en hàbitats transicionales.<br /> <br /> És un animal [[omnívoro]], encara que s&#039;alimenta principalment de [[termites]], [[escarabats peloteros]], uns atres [[insectes]] i menuts [[vertebrats]].<br /> <br /> Va ser descrit per Lund en 1842 com &#039;&#039;Canis vetulus&#039;&#039;. Posteriorment va ser traslladat al gènero &#039;&#039;Lycalopex&#039;&#039;.
