[[Alexander *Luria]] esbossa el terme en el seu llibre &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Higher Cortical Functions in Man&amp;#039;&amp;#039; des de [[1966]], no obstant el termine &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;funcions eixecutives&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;FE&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;) va ser falcat per Muriel Lezak en 1982, qui ho va descriure com el conjunt d&amp;#039;activitats cognitives que favorixen portar a terme un pla coherent dirigit cap al guany d&amp;#039;una meta especifica (Rosselli, Matute &amp;amp; *Ardila, 2010).  Dins de les funcions eixecutives existixen diferents processos que convergixen en el seu concepte general, entre elles podem trobar les bàsiques com l&amp;#039;inhibició, la flexibilitat cognitiva i la memòria de treball, i les que deriven d&amp;#039;elles com la planificació i l&amp;#039;organisació (*Diamond, 2013). &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Les funcions eixecutives permeten respondre a noves situacions i són la base per a controlar atres processos cognoscitius, emocionals i comportamentals (Lezak, 2004). Són molt importants per a l&amp;#039;eixecució de la major part de les activitats diàries del ser humà, principalment les que involucren la creació de plans, la presa de decisions, la solució de problemes, l&amp;#039;autocontrol i la regulació (Filippetti &amp;amp; López, 2013).&lt;br /&gt;

== Habilitats mediades per les FE ==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
El concepte de FE definix a un conjunt d&amp;#039;habilitats cognitives que permeten l&amp;#039;anticipació i l&amp;#039;establiment de metes, la formació de plans i programes, l&amp;#039;inici de les activitats i operacions mentals, la autorregulació de les tasques i l&amp;#039;habilitat de portar-les a terme eficientment. Este concepte definix l&amp;#039;activitat d&amp;#039;un conjunt de processos cognitius vinculada al funcionament dels [[lòbul frontal|lòbuls frontals]] cerebrals del ser humà.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
La FE es referix a una série de factors organisadors i ordenadors subjacents a totes les demés activitats cognitives i poden permanéixer intactes, podent una persona sofrir pèrdues cognitives considerables i continuar sent independent, constructivament autosuficient i productiva.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
En els últims anys s&amp;#039;ha intentat delimitar les capacitats que componen el constructe de les FE i s&amp;#039;han especificat varis components: [[memòria de treball]], [[planificació]], [[Flexibilitat cognitiva|flexibilitat]], [[monitorisació]] i [[Inhibició de la conducta|inhibició]] de conductes.&lt;br /&gt;
En este sentit [[Elkhonon Goldberg|Goldberg]]; discípul de Luria; en el seu llibre &amp;quot;El cervell eixecutiu&amp;quot; utilisa la metàfora del &amp;quot;director d&amp;#039;orquesta&amp;quot;. Segons esta metàfora els lòbuls frontals com a substrat anatòmic principal de les funcions eixecutives serien els encarregats de rebre informació del restant d&amp;#039;estructures cerebrals coordinant-les entre si per a realisar conductes proposicionals o dirigides a un fi. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
L&amp;#039;estimulació de les funcions eixecutives (associades a la corfa *prefrontal) és realisada pel *neuropsicólogo clínic. cal destacar que com més pronte millor es realise dita rehabilitació, major serà la recuperació funcional del pacient, si be hauran de tindre&amp;#039;s en conte atres factors relatius a la pròpia plasticitat neural (edat del pacient, història prèvia, etc.). &lt;br /&gt;
Sense cap dubte, la rehabilitació d&amp;#039;estos pacients frontals cobra una vital importància davant les manifestacions conductuals relatives a dit dany cerebral i la forma que estes afecten a la vida diària i a l&amp;#039;entorn del pacient.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Tradicionalment s&amp;#039;han estudiat els dèficits en les FE en subjectes en dany cerebral frontal. Més recentment també s&amp;#039;han estudiat en subjectes en dany cerebral en atres regions tals com el cerebel o les àrees subcorticals; aixina com en les diferents malalties neurodegeneratives.&lt;br /&gt;
També s&amp;#039;han comprovat dèficits en les funcions eixecutives en trastorns tan variats com el TDAH (trastorn per dèficit d&amp;#039;atenció/hiperactivitat)o els trastorns psiquiàtrics clàssics.
